Lodge Grass hosted the Hardin Bulldogs in a double header at the Metra Park on Wednesday, Jan. 26 in a much-anticipated matchup.
The Lady Indians started the game with a quick 6-0 run on three-point plays from Jordan Jefferson and Gabby Falls Down. Aiyanna Big Man answered for the Bulldogs and then their full court press went to work. Big Man scored again off a steal.
Breanna Old Elk followed that up with a three as the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Jefferson answered with another three for Lodge Grass, one of four that she hit in the first half, to tie the game. Big Man, Breanna, and Kamber Good Luck answered with treys of their own as the Bulldogs opened an 18-11 advantage.
Shantell Pretty On Top hit her first three of the game to get the Indians with 4 points before another 9-0 run from Hardin that made it a 27-14 game early in the second.
The teams combined to hit 10 three points in the first half, including 7 in the first quarter. Although, the Lodge Grass defense kept the Bulldogs from scoring from distance in the second, while hitting three of their own to stay within distance of Hardin at the half, down 26-37. Kylee Old Elk found her scoring touch in the third as she scored 9 points in a row for the Bulldogs, as the eventually built a 20-point lead at 52-32.
Lodge Grass attacked the basket and were rewarded with a few trips to the free throw line, scoring on 5 of 6 over the final minutes of the third. The one miss found its way into Gabby Falls Down’s hands as she scored just before the buzzer to make it a 55-37 game in favor of the Bulldogs.
Hardin controlled the pace for the most part in the final frame as they worked their offense to find good looks at the basket. Shantell Pretty On Top went scored five quick points to get her team within 14 points, but the Bulldogs used the clock to their advantage to close out the win by a final score of 68-50.
Hardin moved to 12-1 on the season, while Lodge Grass stands at 5-6.
Kamber Good Luck led Hardin with 23 points, while Kylee Old Elk added 13 points. Katerena Morrison had a season high of 9 points off the bench, while Diamond Amyotte added 8 points against her former team.
Lodge Grass had balanced scoring led by Jefferson with 14 points, 12 in the first half. Shantell Pretty On Top and Gabby Falls Down added 11 points each, while Jazmine Half chipped in with 10 points.
Hardin will travel to Metra Park to face Billings Central on Friday, Jan. 28. The game starts at 6 p.m.
